Virtual Embroidery Workshop with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture

Join us and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture for a special virtual embroidery workshop.

In this workshop, you will learn how to make an embroidery project inspired by the purple star costume designed by Sun Ra, which is currently on display as part of the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s Afrofuturism exhibit.

Your ticket includes all materials needed for the activity, hands-on instruction from us, and a presentation by Museum Specialist, Timothy Anne Burnside and Historian, Kevin Strait.

Thanks to the generosity of the Smithsonian, your ticket is just $20. Normally a class like this would cost $55 per ticket. Materials kits will be shipped to participants in advance of the program. Participants must register by October 4th (one week in advance) to ensure materials arrive on time.

Materials kit includes:

  • Embroidery hoop

  • Fabric

  • Embroidery floss

  • Stick-on pattern

  • Needle

  • Super glue

Participants will need to provide their own pencil and scissors.
